Pharmacology & Dental Therapeutics / Pain and Anxiety Control (B3)

This module studies the fundamental principles of the actions and properties of drugs. Although emphasis is given to drugs used by the dentist, all major drug groups are covered and clinical correlations between pharmacology and actual clinical practice are made throughout the course. The module is also designed to help students acquire an understanding of pain and the principles of pain control in relation to dental treatment. Emphasis is placed on the physical, mental and emotional status of the patient and the use of local anaesthesia, various pharmacological agents and conscious sedation.
