Applied General with Regional Head and Neck Anatomy (A1)

This module develops a three dimensional special awareness of the human anatomy with its relevance to function and an appreciation of biological design. It covers the major anatomical structures of the thorax and abdomen along with a limited study of the upper limbs and introduction to neuroanatomy.

The anatomy of the head and neck is studied in detail. This entails cadaveric dissection of the head and neck region with emphasis on cranial nerve neuroanatomy and the oral-facial region in relation to clinical correlations for dentistry. The module emphasises knowledge of the microscopic structure, including the ultra structure, of basic tissue types and their organisation into organ systems. This is followed by a study of the organs and systems of the body. Students will also learn basic embryology, growth and development, aging and their importance to the practice of dentistry and congenital abnormality.
