Microbiology and Infection Control (B2)

This module studies and emphasises the transmission of infectious disease as an occupational hazard. Fundamental aspects of microbial physiology and the characteristics of microbial pathogens will be presented. The emerging knowledge of the role played by infectious agents in dental caries, periodontal disease and peri-implantitis will also be emphasised. Also included are the aetiology, pathogenesis and sequelae of dental caries approached from epidemiological, morphological, histological, biochemical, microbiological and immunological perspectives derived from previous modules.
