Bachelor of Dental Science BDSc
The goal of this MQF level 6 course is to deliver an evidence-based curriculum, reflective of contemporary healthcare delivery that fosters active self-directed learning. The intention being to produce graduates with an appreciation of high-quality, state-of-the-art oral health care, including health promotion, disease prevention and the encouragement of innovation in oral healthcare delivery to meet changing global health care needs. This will include the ability to utilise resources that will influence the health care beliefs of the public. Graduates will be able to identify research that generates and applies biophysical, behavioural and clinical knowledge and technology to health and disease and promotes the transfer of technology to the dental care delivery system.
Although graduates will not be able to practice clinical dentistry they will, however, understand the foundations of oral health and disease together with the principles of treatment and prevention. Graduates may continue on to a range of subject-specific careers in the sphere of biological, pharmaceutical, clinical, medical, public health and medical communications. The degree will also offer a variety of transferable skills that can be applied to non-subject specific career pathways such as in local government, environment agencies, teaching and management.
For those who wish to continue their studies a BDSc honours degree is a prerequisite for the Master of Science in Dental Surgery MSc (Clin) which is either a pathway to clinical practice or provides access to other postgraduate degree programmes in Law, Business studies and research. The Bachelors degree will be primarily delivered from the London campus.
