Prosthodontics (B1)
The aim of this module is to allow students to develop their knowledge regarding the replacement of missing teeth, building on restorative and diagnostic skills acquired during the first year. Students will learn the periodontal principles of pontic and connector design and how missing teeth may be replaced using fixed and removable prostheses introducing dental implants.
There is a large technical component to the module to ensure students form an understanding of the indications and limitations of the various restorative options, how they are fabricated and how to deal with complications associated with their placement and oral function. Clinically orientated training will include bridge preparation, impressions, mounting, fabrication and insertion of the prosthesis. The lecture series is correlated with the clinical experience a student obtains.
