MClinDent In Implant Dentistry

The masters programme is aimed at the higher educational needs of general dental practitioners who intend to introduce dental implants as a treatment modality into their practices or to expand on existing knowledge and skills.  It also instils the core skills essential for the professional practice of implant dentistry, practice management and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Implant dentistry is now one of the largest areas of dentistry and patients' expectations are high. Undergraduate training often does not adequately cover this subject and the GDC expects all dentists undertaking implant treatment to be able to demonstrate appropriate training.

An important feature of the MClinDent in implant dentistry is the supervised clinical training where students actually place implants and compile a portfolio of evidence comprising of cases they have actually treated. Clinical training will entail single and multiple implant placement culminating in full arch restorations and advanced bone grafting procedures including sinus augmentation. This programme meets all your training requirements and will add a new rewarding dimension to your professional life to the benefit of your patients.

The objective is to provide dental surgeons with the core knowledge and clinical skills essential for the delivery of competent, high-quality dental care in accordance with regulatory and Royal College guidelines. Additionally, it is to promote an understanding of the different requirements essential to the provision of ethical, predictable and evidence-based treatment. It instils the core skills that are essential for the professional practice of the postgraduate specialist area.

Before deciding on your programme please compare the many unique benefits of the CoLDS implant training programme. You will find it hard to find another established programme that offers so much diversity and opportunity.

1. Established History: Since 2002 our programmes have been delivering degree level training and over the past 12 years have delivered more MSc level qualifications than any other provider in the UK. Our extensive experience has informed the development of all our programmes making them particularly responsive to the needs of the busy GPD in practice. Our former students are now publishing articles thanks to the experience and knowledge gained from our programmes.

2. External Accreditation: The school is accredited by the British Accreditation Council (BAC) which is responsible for setting standards within the independent further and higher education sector and is a leading mark of educational quality used by agencies as a guarantee of standards. The school is BAC accredited and has been given full membership of ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education).  There is only one other body within the UK which has full membership status the QAA.

3. Recognised Qualifications: Our certificates and diplomas can be ‘legalised’ by asking the UK government to confirm that a UK public official’s signature, seal or stamp on the document is genuine. This might be needed if a local authority abroad has asked for the provision of a document and have requested that it be ‘legalised’. BAC is recognised by the UK Government for this purpose i.e. if you possess an education certificate from a BAC accredited provider such as CoLDS the UK government will consider confirmation of its authenticity.

4. Flexible Training Pathway: If for any reason you are unable to complete your training, depending on the stage reached, you will be awarded a university certificate or diploma. At a later date, should you decide to continue, your certificate or diploma will count towards a degree.

6. GDC Requirements: Our implant programme delivers assessed competency training expected by the GDC and a curriculum compliant with current requirements. Clinical training must be formally assessed if it is to be acceptable as evidence of mentored training in the field of implant dentistry. The school has developed an on line competency development system to help you meet the requirements.

7. Multi-centre training: The school has a number of implant training centres spread over the UK so it is usually possible to attend an accredited centre near you. These centres are set up for training and the clinical tutor will have postgraduate qualifications and training in the field. This means you are not restricted to only one location or tutor.

8. Multi-disciplinary approach: The school has a large international multi-disciplinary faculty comprising, amongst others, specialist oral surgeons and restorative consultants to ensure you receive truly relevant and unbiased teaching from a variety of independent credible sources.

9. Multi-System Applicable: The clinical training and teaching you receive is evidenced based and relevant to all implant systems and you will not be indoctrinated towards a few select systems. Our graduates will have the knowledge to be able to judge systems on individual merits according to how they wish to practice and meet their practice and patient needs without the influence of commercial interests or market trends.

10. International Exchange: The school has partner organisations in Africa and Dubai and is able to facilitate exchanges for those students who would like the opportunity for foreign travel thus expanding their professional horizons.

11. Practice Friendly Programme Structure: Teaching-block delivery of modules minimise disruption and time away from your practice. School modules are even run on Sundays.

12. Provision of Patients: Our programmes provide sufficient patients for you to develop competencies in your field under direct supervision in a friendly and supportive environment.

13. Bone Grafting Module: We are one of the few programmes to offer a bone grafting module at a state of the art hospital teaching facility using cadavers. This is a rare opportunity to practice grafting procedures on human specimens giving truly relevant training.
